Do you know your purpose? Meaning, do you know what you were put on this earth to do? Think about that for a moment. I remember when I asked God to show me my purpose years ago. I really wanted to know what was I born to do? So after changing my major 5 times, while transferring to 5 different schools in a 5-year period, God began to reveal my purpose as I was about to enroll myself into the 6th school which was seminary for women’s studies. It was then that I knew the Lord was calling me to minister the gospel to women. Yet, all that time searching to become a dentist, dental hygienist, teacher, marketer, or journalist, God was really calling me into full-time ministry.

Now prior to enrollment, I remember having a meeting with my pastor and his wife about going to seminary school, and in so many words, they told me to just sit, grow, and wait. Well, I trusted their leadership and I did exactly that…not knowing at the time that they too had a school of ministry (at the time, my husband and I were new in the church). Looking back, I now know that this was God’s undiscovered training program for my personal spiritual growth and maturity, because years later the Lord opened the door for formal training to become fully equipped to walk in my calling.

I say all of this to say, God’s plan and purpose for our lives unfolds little by little. For some, I’m sure that last line might have been a hard pill to swallow, because sometimes we want things to happen quickly like, “Lord, send me a husband. Lord, I need a good job. Lord, I need my ministry now. Lord, I need you to do this thing for me now.” But then He sometimes says, “Wait or No.” I believe the reason why He says “wait or no”, is because He knows what’s best for us and He’s still at work in our lives. And not just that, but He’s also preparing others to receive us well. Remember, Jesus was a master carpenter! And now He’s our redeemer!

Listen, my sister. Be encouraged while you wait on the Lord to fulfill the promises in your life. I know it’s not always easy waiting on God, but He has not forgotten you. Personally, there are still things that I aspire to do and some promises that I’m waiting on God to fulfill in my life, but I know that He’s still at work and that He’s faithful! So let’s hold onto Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which began a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” And let’s grab this one too while we’re at it, Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

Remember, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11) Wait on Him…because He knows the plans that He has for you; plans to prosper you, not to harm you, plans for a hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11-my favorite Scripture)

You’ve got a purpose sis! Just ask and you shall receive it…in His perfect timing! Amen.

Remember, Jesus is coming soon. Let’s get ready from the inside out!
