Have you ever felt like you needed to be a little more closer to God? I mean, have you ever gotten this strong sense in your spirit that God was calling you to draw nigh (closer) to Him in a greater way? I would venture to say that many of us have felt that way at some point in time or another in our Christian walk. Yet even still, there comes a time when God really impresses upon our hearts to draw a little more closer than we’ve ever been before.
More now than ever, we need to be drawing closer to God. And I don’t mean by just attending church services (all of that is great), but I’m talking about going into a deeper, richer relationship with Him. I’m talking about creating time in your day to spend that precious one-on-one time with your heavenly Father…just talking to and listening to Him. James 4:8 says, “Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you.” When you draw closer to God, He will come close to you. And it’s so personal.
Sometimes we can get so caught up with the busyness of the day or doing the work of the Lord, that we neglect our relationship with Him. And God is not pleased with that. He wants and desires our daily devotion. He wants a relationship. It all started with Adam. If you look back in the Old Testament with Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Moses, they all walked in close fellowship and relationship with God and He did mighty things through them. But they were genuinely close to the Lord.
We have to know and understand that we can do nothing without Him. Even so, if we are not connected to His Son, we can do nothing. Jesus tells us this in John 15:5, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” (NLT) There you have it! We’re only kidding ourselves if we think we’re doing something for the Lord, yet disconnected from our fellowship with Him.
We also need the power of the Holy Spirit to help us live this life in the Lord. He quickens us and lets us know when we’re out of balance. When we’re in close fellowship with the Lord through personal study time in God’s word and prayer, we’re actually more sensitive to what God wants us to do. The Holy Spirit is our guide through this life and we need him. Galations 5:16 says, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” We need to let God’s Spirit help us stay connected to the Lord, so we’re not led astray in any way.
As I close this post, if you’re not as close as you need to be with the Lord today, then I encourage you to draw closer. Get alone with God. And in that quiet time when it’s just you and Him, talk to Him about everything. Trust me, He’s the best confidant you will ever have. You can share your deepest hurt, pain, concerns, issues, shortcomings, hidden sins, dreams, and even ask Him to show you your heart or what’s not like Him so you can be more effective for the Kingdom. No matter what, you need to talk to Him. He’s waiting and listening. Today is the day to draw closer to God. Don’t wait.
Remember, Jesus is coming back soon! And those who endure unto the end shall be saved. So let’s get ready from the Inside Out!

Just when I thought I’d heard this message before, you added something that I hadn’t really thought about in this context!: “We’re only kidding ourselves if we think we’re doing something for the Lord, yet disconnected from our fellowship with Him.” So true! My focus is on serving Him better with my gifts and talents, but this message is a healthy reminder to make sure I maintain close fellowship with Him–even in doing His work. Thanks sis!
Such powerful messages. Yes end times are here. We need to have the grace and revelation in our Spiritual lives. Know and be obedient to God’s word. Thank you for strengthening my faith. God bless.
